How to setup Communication Gateway (Polling Agent)?

This article contains steps to setup Communication Gateway (Polling Agent).

 Resolution Summary
 

To run this software, please install small xPortal Communication Gateway & small xPortalNet software at 2 different PCs.

xPortal Communication Gateway software cannot running on the same machine as xPortalNet Server.

  1. PC 1 - Installed with xPortal Communication Gateway
    1. Please allow this software to communicate through Windows Firewall.
    2. Please exit/ close any MicroEngine software (If running).
    3. Please run the xPortal Communication Gateway software and configure the TCP Port.

  2. PC 2 - Installed with xPortalNet
    1. Configure the Communication Gateway setup *Dongle license is required to use this feature
    2. Configure Connection, controller and door setup.
         
 Resolution
 

Perform steps below to setup Communication Gateway (Polling Agent).

PC 1 - Installed with xPortal Communication Gateway

  1. Please allow this software to communicate through Windows Firewall.
    1. Open Allowed AppsGo to Control Panel › System and Security › Windows Firewall › Allowed apps.
    2. Allow the XPCommApp apps. Click Change settings › Allow another app... › Browse for XPCommApp.exe file location
      C:\Program Files (x86)\MicroEngine\MicroEngine xPortal Communication Gateway v1.8\XPCommApp.exe
    3. Click OK to confirm and save changes.


  2. Please exit/ close any MicroEngine software (If running).
    Task Manager › Services › Right click on Service name › Stop

  3. Please run the xPortal Communication Gateway software and configure the TCP Port.
    1. Run xPortal Communication Gateway.

    2. The following window will be shown.
    3. Set the TCP Port number to 5000. Click OK.

    4. Go to the System Tray at the bottom of the window. Right click at xPortal Communication Gateway icon and select Agent.

    5. The following window will be shown.


    6. If the header is in red color, it means there is no communication with the xPortalNet Server.
    7. Proceed with the following steps to configure the xPortalNet Server.



PC 2 - Installed with xPortalNet

Configure Communication Gateway

  1. Run xPortalNet Server.
  2. Open Communication Gateway. Go to Server Admin › Communication Gateway.
  3. Add new communication gateway. *Max communication gateway can be added is 3.

    Field Description
    Code & Description Add new Code and Description
    Connect Remote Computer By IP Address/ Computer Name:
    • If select IP Address, enter the Remote IP Address
    • If select Computer Name, enter Remote Computer Name
    * Remote Computer - Refer to computer where xPortal Communication Agent is installed.
    Network Port No Default 5000
  4. Click OK to confirm and save changes.


Configure Connection Setup

  1. Add new connection. Go to Server Admin › Connection Setup.
  2. Fill up the information accordingly.
    Field Description
    Code & Description Add new Code and Description
    Network Type LAN (MV25)
    Comm No NOT USED
    Use IP Address? Yes
    Remote IP Address Controller's IP Address
    Remote Communication Gateway Select small communication gateway that is going to poll the transaction to

    * Each polling agent can support up to 255 IP Address connection only
  3. Click OK to confirm and save changes.


Configure Controller Setup

  1. Add new controller. Go to Server Admin › System Device Setup › Controller.


  2. Fill up the information accordingly.
  3. Click OK to confirm and save changes.
  4. Open small web diagnostic to assign the Server IP Address to Polling Agent PC's IP's Address.
    If the installed controller is XP-GT/ XP-GTR model, set the Remote IP address to Polling Agent PC's IP's Address.

    Normally Server IP Address will assign to Server PC's IP's Address if not connected to any polling agent


Configure Door Setup

  1. Add new door. Go to Server Admin › System Device Setup › Door.


  2. Fill up the information accordingly.
  3. Click OK to confirm and save changes.



Observe Status
 

  1. Go to xPortalNet Server main page.
    1. At Device List, the Controller and Door status shall be "Up".
    2. At Remote Communication Gateway, the Polling Agent shall be "Up".


  2. Go to Polling Agent PC.
    1. At Latest All Activities Listthe Communication Agent shall be "Up".


    2. At Device List, the controller status shall be "Up".


  3. Flash card at the reader and verify the controller and Polling Agent is "Up".
  4. Please verify the transaction shown at Server PC and Polling Agent PC. 
  5. The transaction shall be appear on both PC.   
    1. Server PC


    2. Polling Agent PC


  6. Finished.
