Incompatible xPortal2005 v1.1/ v1.2 database with v1.3, migration required

This article contains steps to migrate to xPortal2005 v1.3 database.

 Problem
 

› Unable to use xPortal2005 v1.1/ v1.2 database on xPortal2005 v1.3.
 I want to upgrade my software from xPortal2005 v1.1/ v1.2 to xPortal2005 v1.3 and I want to use the same database.

 Symptoms
 

 Unable to run the xPortal2005 v1.1/ v1.2 database using xPortal2005 v1.3.
 The software will prompt to initialize new database.

 Cause (optional)
 

 xPortal2005 v1.1 & xPortal2005 v1.2 database is not compatible in xPortal2005 v1.3 software version.
 Database migration is required before upgrading to xPortal2005 v1.3.

 Resolution Summary
 

Use xPortal2005 v1.3 Database Migration Tool to migrate the database.

  1. Prior run the migration tool, please clear any existing xPortal2005 v1.3 database at Server Location.
  2. Then, copy database folder that you wish to migrate from (xPortal2005 v1.1/ v1.2).
  3. Run xPortal2005 v1.3 Database Migration Tool.
  4. Start the database migration and follow the wizards steps.
  5. After completed the migration, run xPortal2005 v1.3.

Please perform steps below to solve the issue.

WARNING! Performing this steps will affect your database structure. Kindly backup your database before proceeding.

  1. Make sure there are no existing xPortal2005 v1.3 database from the Server Location folder. 
  2. Please remove any existing xPortal2005 v1.3 database.

  1. Make sure the xPortal2005 v1.1/ xPortal2005 v1.2 database already copied into Sever Location before start the migration.
  2. Default Server Location:

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\MicroEngine
    Windows 7
    Windows 8
    Windows 10
    Windows Server 2008
    Windows Server 2008 R2

    Windows Server 2012 R2
    Windows Vista
    C:\ProgramData\MicroEngine

  1. To migrate the database, please download xPortal2005 v1.3 Database Migration Tool software from the attached file at the bottom of this article.
  2. After finished the download, install the xPortal2005 v1.3 database migration tool.msi.

  3. Run the software after finished the installation. 

  1. The Migration Wizard window will be shown.

    1. Click Next to continue.

  2. The Initialize Database window will be shown.

    1. Click Initialize Database button to initialize new xPortal2005 v1.3 database.

  3. You should see "Done" when the database initialization is finished.

    1. Click Next to continue.

  4. If you accidentally click the Initialize Database button again, the following message will be shown.

    1. You may ignore the message and click Next to continue.

  5. The Source Program and Data window will be shown. 

    1. Select the Source Program that you wish to migrate to. 
    2. The option is either xPortal2005 v1.1 or xPortal2005 v1.2.
    3. Please ensure the Database, Transaction, Company Logo, Staff Image, Floor Plan and Time Attendance location files are correct.
      The location will be populated using default server location.
    4. You may click the browse  button to change the location.
    5. Click Test Connection button to ensure location files are correct.

  6. "Test connection succeeded" message will be shown if location files are correct.

    1. Click OK. Then click Next button to continue.

  7. The Target Program and Data window will be shown.

    1. Click Test Connection to make sure the xPortal2005 v1.3 folder location is correct.

  8. "Test connection succeeded" message will be shown if xPortal2005 v1.3 folder location is correct.

    1. Click OK. Then click Next button to continue.

  9. The Ready to Migrate window will be shown.

    1. Please confirm the Source Database and Destination Database.  
    2. Click Back if you want to review or change any settings.
    3. Click Migrate to continue with the migration.

  10. The Migrating window will be shown.

    1. Please wait while wizard migrating the data.

  11. The migration will be finished when the "Migration Completed!" is shown.

    1. Click Finish button to exit.

  12. Now the database is already migrated to the xPortal2005 v1.3.
