How to initialize xPortal2005 database?

This article contains steps to initialized xPortal2005 database.

 Resolution Summary
 

After installed the xPortal2005 software, user is required to initialize the database (First time/ new installation). User will not be able to login into the software if database is yet to be initialize. To initialize the database:

  1. Please make sure no existing database version is exists yet from the Server Location folder.
  2. Run the xPortal2005 Server to start initializing the database.
  3. After completed the initialization, login to the software.

Please perform steps below to initialize xPortal2005 database.


  1. Please make sure the xPortal2005 Server and Client software has been installed. 
  2. See article small How to install xPortal2005?.

  1. Make sure there is no similar xPortal2005 database is exists at your MicroEngine Server Location

    Example:
     If software installed is xPortal2005 v1.1, please ensure there is no xPortal2005 v1.1 database is already existed at the Server Location folder.

  2. If exists, kindly remove/ delete the folder accordingly.
    If similar database version is already existed, the software will not prompt to initialize new database.

  1. To initialize database, find the xPortal2005 Server icon from the desktop. Right click and select Open.


  2. The initializing progress bar will be shown.


  3. Wait until Server Connection window appear. Click OK to continue.


  4. Then xPortal2005 Comm Server window will be shown. Click Initialize Database to continue.


  5. Wait for the database to be created.
  6. The following window will be shown when the database is successfully created.
  7. Click OK.

  1. The software then will prompt you to select the Main Comm Port
    If using license, must connect the MCI to the Server PC. Select the Comm Port No where the MCI is connected to.
  2. To check MCI Comm Port, open Device Manager
    Right Click on My Computer › Properties  Device Manager 
     Ports (COM & LPT)


  3. Select the right Comm Port No then click OK.

    If your software is using license but your PC is not connected with any MCI yet, please exit the Server (Refer Step No. 7 below) and re-login to the Server after connecting the MCI.
  4. If your software is not using license, you will get this error message as the license key is not detected. 
  5. You may ignore the message and click OK


  6. Wait until the software loading. When the following window appear, click OK and you may login to your Server.


  7. Find the xPortal Server icon from your system tray. Right click on the icon and select Server.

    To exit from the software, select Exit. Then enter software UserID and password accordingly.
  8. Enter the correct UserID and PasswordThen click OK to login.


  9. Find the xPortal2005 Client icon from the desktop. Right click and select Open.


  10. Enter the correct UserID and PasswordThen click OK to login.


  11. You have successfully initialized the database and login to the xPortal2005 Server and Client.
