Incompatible xPortal2005 v1.1 with v1.2 database, migration required

This article contains steps to migrate the xPortal2005 v1.1 database to xPortal2005 v1.2.

 Problem
 

› Unable to use existing xPortal2005 v1.1 database on xPortal2005 v1.2. Why?
 I want to update my software version from xPortal2005 v1.1 to xPortal2005 v1.2. And I want to use the same database. What should I do?  

 Symptoms
 

 Incompatible database for the latest software version.
 Unable to run the xPortal2005 v1.2. The software will prompt to initialize new database.       

 Cause (optional)
 

 Database migration is required before upgrading to xPortal2005 v1.2.

 Migrate the xPortal2005 v1.1 to xPortal2005 v1.2 using SQL Query.
     
 Resolution
 

Please perform steps below to solve the issue.

WARNING! Performing this steps will affect your database structure. Kindly backup your database before proceeding.

  1. Download the xPortal2005 v1.1 to v1.2 Migration Script.pdf from the end of this article. 
  2. Download MDB Plus Viewer software to open your database. Click small here to download.
  3. After finished the download, run the MDBPlus.exe.

  4. Following window will be shown.


  5. Browse the xPortal2005 v1.1 database. Select the xPortal2005DB.mdb then click Open.

  6. The following pop up will be shown. 
  7. Select "Open tables marked as System".
  8. Then click OK.

  9. The following tables will be shown. 
  10. Click Query button to start migrating the database.


  11. The following window will be shown.


  12. Copy the query line from the migration script file.
  13. Paste into the query window and then click Execute. 
    Download the xPortal2005 v1.1 to v1.2 Migration Script.pdf from the end of this article. 
  14. You should get output as shown below for each query line that you executed.


  15. Click OK and continue to execute all queries.
  16. Please execute the query one by one. 
    Copy all query 1 and then execute. Next, copy all query 2 and execute. Follow the steps until query 18.
  17. After finished executed all queries, close the query window by click button Exit.
  18. Reopen the database to view the changes made to the database structure.
  19. Click the Reopen button. Make sure the database location is similar. Then click OK.


  20. You can see that the fingerprint token type is already added into 'tbl_VerificationAcc' as the xPortal2005 v1.2 can support fingerprint controller.


  21. Now the database is already migrated to the xPortal2005 v1.2.
  22. Click Exit to finish.

  1. To use the migrated database, you must first initialized the xPortal2005 v1.2 database. See article small How to initialize xPortal2005 database?
  2. After successfully initialized database, exit the software completely.
  3. Find the migrated database from your xPortal2005 v1.1 database folder. Copy the xPortal2005DB.mdb file.
  4. Then replace the xPortal2005DB.mdb at xPortal2005 v1.2 at the same location.
  5. Run the xPortal2005 v1.2 Server and Client.
