"Invalid setting. Please contact administrator!" error

TCP Port must be correctly configured when login to xPortal Client. This is to ensure the connection with the xPortal Server could be established. This article contains steps to fix error upon login to the xPortal Client.

Applies To:

  • Software xPortal2005, xPortal2007, xPortalNet, xPortal3000     
 Problem
 

› Unable to login to software xPortal client. 

 Symptoms
 



Get error message as shown above.

 Cause (optional)
 
  1. Blocked by Windows Firewall.
  2. Software server is not running.
  3. Incorrect Server connection.
  4. Incorrect TCP Port number.
 Resolution Summary
 
  1. If the software is blocked by the Windows Firewall/ AntiVirus, please configure to allow exception/ add exclusion for the software installed.
  2. Then start the Server software before you run the Client software.
  3. At the Server Connection
    1. Please select the correct Server Location.
    2. Please set the correct TCP Port number
The port number must be similar as configured during first time initializing the database. By default the TCP Port number is 7381.

 Resolution

Please perform steps below to solve the error.


  1. Open System and Security from the Control Panel.
  2. Find "Allow an app through Windows Firewall".


  3. The next view shows you a list of all the apps that are already allowed to communicate.
  4. Click the Change settings button to give yourself permissions to make changes or add new apps. You’ll only need to do this once. To add a new app to the list, click "Allow another app".


  5. In the Add an app window, browse for the xPortal software app you want to allow network access to.

  6. Click the Network types button to specify whether you want to allow the app access on public or private networks (or both).

  7. Click OK to save the changes.
  8. If your PC has been installed with AntiVirus, please add exception for the xPortal software installed as well. See small How to add program exception into Antivirus?


  1. Please run and start the Server Software before run the Client software.
  2. You shall see the following message when the Server is already started.

Please select the correct Server Location and set the correct TCP Port number

  1. Run the xPortal Client.
  2. Click Connection Setup button under the login credentials.
    1. Set the correct Server IP Address if you choose to identify the server location by IP Address.
    2. Set the correct Server Computer Name if you choose to identify the server location by Computer Name.


  3. Set the correct Port number.
     
  4. The port number must be similar as configured during first time initializing the database. By default the TCP Port number is 7381.
  5. Click OK to login into Client.

    Hello,
    My name is Amy. My company is one of the end users of xportal3000. Recently, we are having this issue which unable to access the server. I have followed these steps which turn off the firewall and antivirus firewall as well, but seem doesn't fix the problem at all. Please help to advise the other solution. We did contact our dealer but seem no response. Please kindly help. Thank you for your attention.
