Controller status whether "Up" or "Down" depends on the communication between the controller and the software. This article contains steps to fix the problem controller "Down" / No transaction (Uplink failed).

Applies To:

  • XP-M1000x
  • XP-M1000ABX
  • XP-M1300X
  • XP-M1300ABX
  • XP-M1000XE
  • XP-M1000CPX
  • Software xPortal2005
  • Software xPortal2007
  • Software xPortalNet
  • Software xPortal3000
 Problem

› The PC does not have serial port, how do I connect the controller (XP-M1000x) to PC?
No communication between controller and software.
No current transaction from the controller shown in the xPortal software.
If I use RS232/ RS485 connection from controller (XP-M1000x) to PC installed with xPortal software, how does the wiring connection from controller to PC?

 Symptoms

Controller status shown "Down" in Device List from xPortal software.
No transaction update in the software Latest Event List.
XP-M1000x setting does not updated when download setting to XP-M1000x.
Software Delivery Report shown sent "Error" when downloading setting or update card user info to the XP-M1000x.

 Cause (optional)

MCI/ Controller uplink communication is error or part faulty.
 Incorrect MCI/ Controller connection.
Incorrect Mode jumper setting of M1000x.
Incorrect setting in Connection Setup in xPortal Server (Comm Port Number or Baudrate setting).
Incorrect setting in Controller Setup in xPortal Server (Controller Model selected).
Incorrect Baudrate setting at the Controller and MCI.
Incorrect Unit Number set in the General Parameter at the controller and does not match with the software setting.

 Resolution Summary

Resolution 1:
› Use network cable and connect with MOXA to use LAN connection to uplink the controller with software if the PC have no serial port.

Resolution 2:
› Make sure MCI/ Controller wiring connection is correct and uplink connection is working fine.

Resolution 3:
› Make sure Mode jumper at the controller is in Open condition.

Resolution 4:
› Make sure all the setting such as Comm Port NumberBaudrateController Model and Unit Number is match and same between software setting and controller.

 Resolution

Please complete the following steps in order to resolve the issue.

Resolution 1:

  1. See AA-00435 to set the uplink connection using network cable and MOXA - NPort’s Web Console.
  2. See AA-00436 to set the uplink connection using network cable and MOXA - NPort Administrator.

Resolution 2:

  1. Make sure the MCI and controller wiring connection are correct and ensure the uplink connection is working fine.
  2. See AA-00449 to check the MCI setting.

Resolution 3:
Refer to the wiring connection below for full door access hardware setup.

  1. Make sure the Mode jumper at the XP-M1000x is open.

» For high resolution image, please download the attached wiring diagram at the end of this article.
  2. If the uplink communication failed, please perform Resolution 4 below.

Please complete the following steps in order to resolve the uplink failed issue.

A. Controller Address Setup

  1. Make sure the address of the controller is correctly set in the controller and the xPortal Server.
  2. Check the address set for the controller. Follow steps below to check the settings:
    1. At the controller, enter the Programming Mode.
    2. Press '1' for Sys menu.
    3. Press '6' for General Para. This will bring us to the General Parameter Setting screen.

    4. Check and enter correct System Address. Ensure that Addr no. entered is same as Unit No in xPortal Server (Controller Setup).
    5. Save the settings and reset the controller.

B. RS232 Connection Setup
  1. Perform this step if you are using RS232 connection.
  2. For full steps to configure controller, connection and door, see AA-00367.
  3. Make sure the connection from RS232 to the controller and PC is correct.
