No communication between controller and software when using MV28

This article contains steps to troubleshoot problem where 

no communication between controller and software when using MV28.

  • XP-M1000x, XP-M1000ABX, XP-M1300X, XP-M1300ABX, XP-M1000XE, XP-M1000CPX, XP-M1000i
  • Software xPortal2005, xPortal2007, xPortalNet, xPortal3000     
 Problem
 

 Controller cannot up using LAN connection.   
 No communication between controller and the software. 

 Symptoms
 

 Controller status shown "Down" at xPortal Server.
 No transaction shown at the software.
  

 Cause (optional)
 

 MV28 faulty.
 Network cable faulty.
 Incorrect setting at NPort Administrator/ NPort's Web Console.
 Incorrect Unit No/ Model No in Controller Setup.
 Unmatched Server’s IP Address for Communication.
 IP Address conflict. 

 Resolution Summary
 

By connecting with MV28, user will be able to use LAN (Local Area Connection) with XP-M1000x controller which only support Serial Port Connection.

  1. Prior to the configuration, please check the MV28 is working fine and the network cable to connect is in good condition. 
  2. During the NPort Administrator/ NPort's Web Console and Server Setup configuration, please make sure both Server's IP Address configured is similar.
  3. Remember to assign unique IP Address for the controller to avoid connection's conflict with other device on the same network.
