Pre-requisite:
- Windows XP Pro, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2.
- Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio.
- xPortalNet Installation CD.
- Microsoft SQL Server (Pre-Installation).

Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Installation:
- Please make sure you have perform the Microsoft SQL Server (Pre-Installation) before start the installation.
- Open the xPortalNet Installation CD.
- The following files will be shown.
- Open file 2) Microsoft SQL Server 2008. The following files will be shown:
- You may open the Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Installation Guide.pdf for installation guide.
- To start the installation, right click and run the SQLEXPRWT_x86_ENU_2008.exe as administrator.
- Wait for the files to be extracted.
- If program compatibility windows is shows up, just run the program.
- Wait for the SQL Server Management installer to appear.
- At the SQL Server Installation Center:
- Select Installation at the left hand side menu.
- Then select the New SQL Server stand-alone installation or add features to an existing installation.
- Setup Support Rules check will run. Make sure all the status are Passed.
- Click OK to proceed.
» Restart PC if required by the setup.
- Wait for the SQL Server to process the operation.
- At the Product Key page, just click Next to continue.
- At the License Terms page, please read the License Terms carefully. If you agree to the License Terms, click Next to continue.
- At the Setup Support Files page, click Install to install the setup support files.
- Wait until the setup support files finished to install.
- At the Setup Support Rules page, please make sure the Status of the Rule is all Passed.
- At the Feature Selection page, please select Select All features then click Next to continue.
- On Instance Configuration page, select:
- Default Instance: To install as "MSSQLSERVER", or
- Named Instance: To install as a name other than "MSSQLSERVER". Specify both Named Instance and Instance ID fields.
- Click Next to continue.
Important: Note down the Instance Name/ Instance ID that you have entered.
» This Instance ID will be used later to connect the xPortalNet software with the SQL Server during Database initialization.
- Make sure you have enough disk space before proceed with the installation. Click Next to continue.
- On Server Configuration page,
- For SQL Server Database Engine, change its Account Name to "NTAUTHORITY\SYSTEM".
- For SQL Server Browser, change its Startup Type to "Automatic".
- Click Next to continue.
- On Database Engine Configuration page,
- At Authentication Mode:
- Select Mixed Mode (SQL Server authentication and Windows authentication).
- Enter and confirm password for Service Account (sa).
- At Specify SQL Server administrators:
- Click Add Current User. Wait until current computer user name appear.
- Click Next.
Important: Note down the password you have entered.
» This Password will be used later to connect the xPortalNet software with the SQL Server during Database initialization.
- On Error and Usage Reporting page, click Next to continue.
- On Installation Rules page, please make sure the Status of the Rule is all Passed.
- Click Next to continue.
- On Ready to Install page, click Install to start the installation.
- Wait until the installation is completed.
- Make sure the Status of the Feature Name is all Success. Click Next to finish the installation.
- You should see a message as shown below when the installation is completed successfully.
- Please restart your PC after finish the installation.
